Dawn's artwork and photography are the result of interest in nature, especially birds and plants that includes study since early childhood.  She and her brother accompanied her parents into the field, along rivers, lakes, and marshes frequently to learn of birds and stars, animals and wildflowers.  Encouraged by her naturalist father and artist mother to pursue those interests, she attained her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry at VCSU with high  honors.

With these experiences in mind, Dawn shared her love for nature with her two children as they grew up.  In full tradition, even now, her grandchildren await their next lark together with Grandma.

Although Dawn  spent most of her life in North Dakota, she has also resided in South Dakota and Nebraska as well. With her husband Jim, a pastor, they presently live in Valley City, North Dakota.
